Jon “Bowzer” Bauman

Jon “Bowzer” Bauman – Senior Votes Count! Co-Founder

Jon Bauman is best known as “Bowzer” from the hit TV series and musical group, “Sha Na Na.” But, since 2004, he has traveled the country acting as a surrogate on senior issues for literally dozens of political campaigns. Jon has worked almost every special election for the House of Representatives since 2010, including wins for Mark Critz in PA and Kathy Hochul in NY. He may be the only activist who participated in all of the 13 districts in the Wisconsin Senate recalls, as well as the successful “No on Issue 2” campaign in Ohio.

In 2014, Jon traveled from Alaska to south Florida, from Maine to southern California to deliver 35 endorsements of leaders who were strong on senior issues. 22 of these endorsements were in U.S. House of Representatives races, 7 were for the Senate, and 6 were Gubernatorial. Jon’s deep understanding of the country regionally results from his travels doing shows coast to coast since 1970. In the 2012 cycle, he also served as a spokesperson for the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.

Since 2005, Jon has also been the driving force behind the Truth in Music law designed to stop the spread of impostor musical groups. He co-wrote this law and promoted it nationwide as Chair of the Truth in Music Committee at the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Jon worked with state legislators on both sides of the aisle to make Truth in Music the law of the land in the 34 states with the biggest impostor group presence! Additionally, Jon’s continual advocacy efforts with law enforcement agencies coordinating with state Attorneys General has resulted in an actual solution to this impostor musical group problem that has plagued both consumers and legendary classic rock performers.

Jon’s show business career also continues as “Bowzer’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Party” and “Bowzer’s Ultimate Doo-Wop Party” perform at venues all over the world. He is the host of three of the most recent PBS Pledge Break specials: “Rock, Pop & Doo-Wop “Doo-Wop Discoveries” and the upcoming “Rock Rewind.” But his passion these days is to help political candidates who are strong on senior issues win their races! That’s why he has become a co-founder of Senior Votes Count!

Jon is a magna cum laude graduate of Columbia University in New York. His blend of celebrity presence combined with understanding of both senior issues policy and the “show business” side of the political sphere is uniquely invaluable to our goal of electing strong advocates for seniors.
